Erin's Graduation

Congratulations Erin! This week Erin graduated from Georgetown with her Masters degree! Yea! We are so proud of her!!
Dylan and I wouldn't miss the occasion.  Unfortunately, Daddy couldn't make the trip- he had to stay back and keep an eye on the office.
So the week started with Dylan and I flying into DC.  The trip was uneventful, which is always nice when you are flying cross-country with a 2 year old!  Dylan and I were starving when we arrived so Erin and Mom took us to a fabulous middle eastern restaurant.  It was about 10PM and Dylan was the only 2 year old out on the town...  Everyone in the Huka Bar gave us some pretty odd looks as we strolled through to the back restaurant. :)

The next day we threw Erin a graduation party on her rooftop.  It was a great party- full of friends and family, and of course the amazing view of DC skyline in the background!  Dylan did great, despite no nap.  He was the hit of the party- watching all of the airplanes & trucks and pointing them all out to everyone who walked by.  He also ate his weight in cheese... that kid loves cheese (just like mommy).

The day of graduation we decided to let Dylan sleep in as late as possible.  Bad idea... by the time we got to campus the garage was full.  Oops!!  Luckily mom had dropped Erin off earlier so she wouldn't miss her own graduation.  Mom, Dylan and I, on the other hand... were screwed.  We ended up parking in neighborhood about 5 miles from campus.  Ok, I'm sure it wasn't 5 miles, but it sure felt like it when you are running... in heels... uphill... with a stroller... and a toddler (still in pajamas).  We finally made it, without a second to spare, literally.  We changed Dylan out of his PJs and into his Georgetown polo (thank you Erin) and watched with great pride as Erin got her diploma along with the other graduates.

After the ceremony for the math department and a quick lunch, it was time to head to Lake Anna for the after party!  We rented a fabulous log cabin right on the lake for a long weekend with the fam.  The house was awesome- complete with a boat house & movie theatre!  Corey & Caitlin arrived early with Dad, Bard, Doug & Terri.  The girls decorated the house from top to bottom with steamers & congratulations balloons!  It was a great way to kick-off the weekend.  And Dylan, loved, I mean LOVED all the balloons!!

For the next 3 days we relaxed in the sun and enjoyed lots of family time.  Dylan loved riding on PaPa's boat and swimming in the lake with Grammy!

After the lake we headed back to NC for a few days.  I had to do some meetings at Lenovo and mom and Barb took turns watching Dylan.  After 10 days of being gone it was time for us to head home.  We were sad to say goodbye to everyone, but excited to home and see Daddy and the puppies.

Unfortunately the flight home was not as "uneventful" as the trip out.  We ended up sitting on a runway in Atlanta for 2 1/2 hours during some awful thunderstorms.  It was really scary- the sky was black and I was sure we were going to have a tornado!  (Tornados ripped through the mid-west this week, killing several peeople).  Luckily we didn't.. but Dylan did turn into a little tornado himself.  What do you expect a 2 year old to do after being coped up on an airplane for so long?  After a little dramamine and a lot of tears, he finally feel a sleep half way through the flight home and stayed passed out all the whole way until landing.  Thank goodness!  After a trip like that, the San Diego airport has never looked so good!!

Dylan sleeping on the way to the Lake, very regal looking...

The storm... they put all the planes on the runway becuase that is "safer". How exactly is that safer???

Captiva Island- Search Insider Summit

My job is very demanding, but it does have it's perks. This year I got to go to Captiva Island for the Searh Insider Summit. The South Seas Resort was amazing. Plus, it was a nice trip after a rough couple weeks.

The best part of the trip... I got to see a manatee!!  In my younger years (around 7), I made it my life's mission to save the manatees.  I went around my neighborhood weekly. maybe even daily, selling rocks to raise funds for my cause.  I love all of my old neighbors, especially Papa Scott & Betty- my best customers, for supporting this important charity... 5 cents at a time.  And all this time, and I've never even seen this animal... until now :)

How can you not be relaxed in a place like this??
